New From Grace Covenant Worship - All For Love

Grace Covenant Worship's newly released EP, All For Love, is based upon Zephaniah 3:17, which states, "He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."  The worship team explains, "Capturing in music the essence of the eternal love of a God who first loved us remains a lifelong pursuit for both musician and worshiper. These songs are an offering to Him, that First Love."

Playback User Management

Last year, we launched a MultiTrack iPad app called Playback and we've seen a number of churches begin to use the app in their worship services. We created Playback to be used in live performance by a music director on a worship team, but what surprised us was how many of you wanted to share Playback as a means to allow your team members to rehearse their parts if they had an iPad.

MultiTracks For "Throne of Praise" by Phillips, Craig & Dean Now Available!

"Throne of Praise," the latest radio single by Phillips, Craig & Dean from the album, Above It All, is a powerful worship anthem full of exaltation for the Savior.  Dan Dean, shares, "The idea behind 'Throne of Praise' is that with our actions, our words, and our worship, we create a place of honor for God to sit and dwell. We’ve all witnessed that in our churches on a Sunday. Nothing special about the building or the place we come together, even the day of the week, but it’s when God’s people come together. And in a spirit of community, we get to lift Him and exalt him. Although he already has a throne He dwells on, Revelation tells us, we create this place for Him to come and occupy and it’s one of reverence and respect and honor."

Controlling Lyrics and Video with Ableton Live

A large amount of churches use a Lyric Presentation software called ProPresenter. Renewed Vision the makers for ProPresenter created a Module for ProPresenter that allows you to control lyrics, videos, and other items via MIDI. This is a great solution for churches that don’t have a large production staff (or any) and churches looking for a well run service without distractions. Below are a few links to videos and posts you can share with churches that are interested in expanding beyond using Ableton Live just for running MultiTracks. We'll have more content like this coming soon from our time at Sweetwater as well as a public version of this post soon!

Controlling Lights with Ableton Live

Can I Control my Light Board with Ableton Live?

I get this question very often. A lot of churches that have been running MultiTracks and feel like they have that down-are very interesting in using Ableton Live to control other gear, like lights, lyrics, and videos. This isn't a large church only thing either. This benefits small churches substantially-perhaps even more then large churches. We have video content coming from our training time at Sweetwater that will include videos you can share with customers. We'll also make a form of what you see here available in public form along with those videos. So the short answer to that question: Yes, it’s very likely. Here’s a few ways to control lights and if Ableton supports that control. DMX DMX is the standard lights accept for control from a lighting console. If you cut out the “middle-man” and want to control lights directly from Ableton, you can use the Enntec DMX-IS to program and control lights directly from with-in Ableton Live in a plugin format. This is a great solution for churches looking for a simple, one machine based solution for MultiTracks and lighting control. SMPTE Time Code SMPTE is the “industry standard” for time-line based automation. Lights are programmed in a console (or software lighting control) on a time line and audio is sent from a control program that sends information like  Hour, Minute, Second, Frame to cue specific lights at a specific point in time. Live doesn’t natively output SMPTE but you can use a solution like http://elteesee.pehrhovey.net to generate a Striped SMPTE audio track. You can load this file into Ableton Live and send it via an audio output of your interface into the LTC (Linear Time Code) input on your Console MIDI Time Code MIDI Time Code (MTC) is essentially a MIDI version of SMPTE. It’s a linear based programming solution. The benefit of this solution is that it’s based on MIDI so you can send it wirelessly or virtually between machines. Using a free Max 4 Live Plugin (Great reason for upgrade to Ableton Live Suite) called LiveMTC you can generate MIDI Time Code information from Ableton Live MIDI Show Control MIDI Show Control (MSC) allows you to call up cues in the console/software using a Cuelist/Cue format and a message like a GO message. A typical MSC message would be be GO to Cue 31 in Cuelist 4. Live can’t natively send MSC but you can use a program like Q-lab or Bome’s MIDI Translator to convert MIDI notes to MSC. MIDI Notes/CC Some lighting consoles/Software accept MIDI Notes or MIDI CC to remotely trigger presets, cues in the lighting console. You can create MIDI notes/CC natively on clips in Ableton Live. iOS 8.3 Update for Playback Intro & Playback Pro

After spending the day testing Playback Intro & Playback Pro on iOS 8.3, we’ve found some fairly large bugs that cause issues with the app. This update causes the track faders to become stuck and un-responsive. The update also seems to affect the function of the Auto-Fade button.
