Silent Night (Christ the Saviour Is Born)

CATEGORIES: News, Home Page, New Releases
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the famous Christmas Truce of World War I. On Christmas Eve, 1914, after another day of fighting on the Western Front, British soldiers saw their German counterparts put away their guns and raise lighted candles into the air. The men began to sing a familiar carol in their own tongue.  It was "Silent Night." The British soldiers joined in and at that moment, the words of the song had a profound impact: guns were laid aside, fighting ceased, and peace reigned. It wasn't long before the soldiers from both sides ventured unarmed into no-man's land, singing, exchanging greetings and gifts, and even playing football together. The truce didn't last past Christmas, but the power of the moment did. Worship Central's Ben Cantelon and Nick Herbert were commissioned to write a new chorus for "Silent Night" as part of a partnership between Integrity Music and HOPE Together's Greater Love project, commemorating the anniversary of this significant moment in time. The words, "Christ the Saviour, Christ the Saviour is born! Peace and hope have come through Jesus Christ the Son," really focus on the truth that in midst of war and chaos, on that night long ago, peace came to earth in the form of a baby.
